GROWING FUTURE FOREST & CONSERVATION LEADERS - 2019 REPORT

WE CONTINUE TO GROW

WE CONTINUE TO GROW

WE CONTINUE TO GROW

It was another year of growth and accomplishment in 2019 for Project Learning Tree Canada (PLT Canada), an initiative of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI).

Thanks to our partners in the SFI and Canadian Parks Council networks, we placed youth in over 2,000 Green Jobs across the country since 2018. Youth gained valuable experience that will help them pursue careers as foresters, wildlife biologists, Indigenous knowledge coordinators, hydrologists, park rangers, and much more.

We also continued to inspire youth across the country. Our Green Ride for Green Jobs campaign involved a cross-Canada journey on a wooden bike where we met 230 Green Jobs youth and over 50 employers. Our growing community not only benefits from increased access to job opportunities, but also valuable mentorship, networking, and career development tools we are in the process of building.

We look forward to even greater success in the year to come as we continue to grow Canada’s next generation of forest and conservation leaders.

WE PLACED 431 YOUTH INTO GREEN JOBS WITH PROVINCIAL/TERRITORIAL PARKS

Green Jobs youth from PLT Canada and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association participate in a youth panel at the Canadian Parks Conference.

In addition to hosting a booth, PLT Canada, #NatureForAll, Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq), and the Canadian Parks Council sponsored and coordinated a delegation of 30 youth to attend the Canadian Parks Conference in Quebec City. The delegation networked, learn about career options, and served as an important launching point for Canada’s involvement in the global #NatureForAll Youth Champions movement.

I learned lots about the park over the summer including its history and plans for its future. My favorite part of the job was making people happy by running a really great program that everyone enjoyed. JESSALYN SHWAGA
